What I'm Listening To: M3LL155X By FKA twigs

What I'm Listening To: M3LL155X By FKA twigs

One of the things I love most in this world is bearing witness to another person expressing themselves freely and unapologetically, which is probably why FKA twigs is one of my favorite artists. She's one hell of a dancer, can vogue like nobody's business, her music is fire, and her baby hair game is unmatched.

This weekend she released M3LL155X (Melissa) her third EP following LP1 which came out last summer. I'm a fan of musical short films and visual albums (see Beyoncé and Kanye West's Runaway) and a 16 minute video soundtrack accompanying the EP, which features 4 of the 5 songs, does not disappoint.

According to a Complex interview with twigs , M3LL155X, in all of its uniqueness is filled with symbolism and imagery about the journey of self-realization.

You can get pregnant with pain and birth creativity,” she said. “You can birth being yourself—that’s something I’ve learned through vogue. Being humble and staying committed to being the person you want to be despite criticism, prejudice, and everything you’ve been through. Just being you.
— FKA twigs

Before pursuing her own musical career, twigs was a successful back up dancer and she's discussed how important it is to keep growing creatively and coming into her own as an artist. This latest EP like previous ones is a work of art and it's definitely hard to argue with the inspiration and motivation behind it.

Thank you so much for visiting!
