Ileke Travels: Art Prize Weekend in Grand Rapids
Nearly two month ago I visited my friend Gina in Grand Rapids for Art Prize 2015. Art Prize is an annual international art competition that takes place every Fall in Grand Rapids, Michigan. For three weeks the entire city becomes one giant art gallery with many different businesses (restaurants, bars, stores, museums, hotels, parks, etc) featuring artists from all over the world. Not only is the art accessible and interactive to the public, but the public is able to vote for the winners of the competition.
I had a fantastic time taking in all the art and exploring the city which I had only been to once before for an overnight trip. We ate at some fantastic restaurants that I would definitely recommend. Marie Catrib's for brunch is a must. It's a bakery/restuarunt that offers lots of local, organic and vegan options. I ordered the Rock the Hash-Bah which was fantastic. I also really enjoyed Rockwell Republic, which serves American and Asian inspired food and has delicious sushi. Of course no trip to Grand Rapids is complete without visiting Founders Brewing Co. The Rübæus raspberry ale is my favorite. They have a nitro rübæus on tap that is incredibly smooth and velvety!
Are there any places that you've visited lately that you really enjoyed? I'd love to hear more about it in the comments below!
