Style & Beauty Finds

As I mentioned in my look of the week post (Museum Chic) one trend that I love for Spring are leather jackets. I instantly feel cooler whenever I wear mine and love that it can be dressed up or down. I've picked five other jackets ranging in price from low $ to high $$$ that I love.

1. Boohoo Leah Leather Look Biker Jacket - the price tag on this jacket is hard to beat!

2. Forever 21 Embroidered Moto Jacket - I love the embroidered flowers on this jacket, it gives a nice vintage feel to the look.

3. Topshop Quilted Faux-Leather Biker - similar to my jacket but at a much better price!

4. H&M Biker Jacket - H&M is one of my favorite places to shop and this jacket is both tough and feminine.

5. Forever 21 Floral Faux Leather Moto Jacket - Similar to the other Forever 21 jacket listed above but in white!

Follow my 2017 50 Book Challenge. I just finished reading Daughter's of the Stone by Dahlma Llanos-Figueroa which I could not put down! I will do a proper review of the first five books of the challenge once I am done with my next read, The Thing Around Your Neck by one of my favorite authors Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie!

Jane the Virgin- One of my absolute favorite shows! Jane the Virgin is a "satirical romantic comedy-drama telenovela" that is currently in its third season. The show follows Jane Gloriana Villanueva, a hard-working, aspiring writer and her friends and family. She lives with her mother Xiomara "Xo", who had Jane when she was just sixteen, and her abuela, Alba, who is a devout Catholic and the reason Jane is saving herself for marriage. The show starts off with Jane becoming artificially inseminated at a routine gynecologist appointment with sperm from her one time crush, Rafael, who is deliberating leaving his wife, Petra, who overhears his plan and goes behind his back to inseminate herself leading to the mix-up. All the while Jane is dealing with her new engagement to the love of her life, Michael, and also trying to develop a relationship with her father, Rogelio, who she just met. There is a lot of drama and many twists and turns; it is a telenovela after all!

What I love about the show is the clever writing, the fantastic acting , and the touching storylines. It is self-aware and self-referencing which adds comedy and cuts some of the drama. The intergenerational female relationship at the center is what makes it so compelling. It's refreshing to have a show that is centered on a positive representation of a Latina and her family. I also love that there are many bilingual characters and that they don't make a big deal about the fact that characters switch between Spanish and English. This show definitely has it all, and I could spend hours talking about it. If you're not watching already you can catch up on Amazon or catch current episodes the CW!

Nia Owens is a Blogger/Youtuber/Photographer I have been following for years. I first discovered her through her Youtube channel where she documented her long-distance relationship with her then boyfriend, now fiancé, Morgan, and I was captivated by how adorable and special their relationship is. It's been amazing to watch how much she has grown and how her and Morgan's relationship has developed. Her followers got to witness her graduation from college, her and Morgan finally living in the same state after many years apart, and their recent engagement. They also recently adopted their sweet pup Theo, who Nia provides lots of cute photos and videos of to satisfy your puppy fever! You can find Nia on instagram and on her personal blog

Eldorado General Store- I got to spend this Wednesday at the eclectic and charming vintage general store in Corktown Detroit and got to interview the inspiring owner Erin Gavle about starting Eldorado and following her passion. I'll post more this coming week!

Throwback Post

Privilege, Intersectionality, Feminism, & Beyoncé

I thought it would be appropriate during Women's History month as well as the week of International Women's Day to throwback to one of my favorite posts about Intersectional Feminism and Queen B 👑 🐝  More than ever in the political climate we're all living in, it's important, especially for us women, to support one another and keep in mind how we can use our privilege to ensure that others who are marginalized or aren't as visible are heard.
